Divorce is a very difficult time and could be traumatic for the children especially if the children are at a young, tender age in their lives. The child’s world has shifted and they are involved in a custody battle where they are “visiting” with a parent who is no longer in the home where the children engage in their routine lives. In most family law cases, counseling is important for both parent and child to alleviate the stress of the experience. The family law code section 3190 is devoted to counseling as the court may order the parents and children to gain therapy, counseling or health services. The family law courts take into consideration the child’s age, the litigousness of the divorce at hand and might feel it necessary for the parties to obtain counseling. In any child custody battle counseling is beneficial and should be a consideration for anyone going through a divorce.
